And today, let’s celebrate World Mental Health Day.

World Mental Health Day is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. It was first celebrated in 1992!

Mental health is a basic human right for all people. Everyone, whoever and wherever they are, has a right to the highest attainable standard of mental health. This includes the right to be protected from mental health risks, the right to available, accessible, acceptable, and good quality care, and the right to liberty, independence, and inclusion in the community.

On World Mental Health Day, we celebrate an empowering, motivating, and empathic approach to mental health awareness. As a mental health advocate, I emphasize the significance of raising awareness about mental health. It’s time to recognize that mental health matters just as much as physical health. By addressing these issues, we empower ourselves and others, fostering a supportive and understanding community where everyone can thrive. Let’s break the stigma, one conversation at a time, for a healthier, happier world.

As a therapist and grief educator, and a mental health advocate at heart, I can only stress the importance of raising awareness about mental health. You are not alone, and help is available.
