FAQ'S ABOUT HYPNOTHERAPY
My top hypnotherapy questions and answers are listed below, if you do not see your question answered below, then please contact me for more information.

Hypnotherapy is a safe form of therapy where the critical mind (conscious mind) is by-passed in order to access the most powerful part of your mind, your creative mind or your subconscious mind.
What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind or trance state that promotes better communication between the conscious and the subconscious minds, helps to bypass the critical mind and reach the creative mind. It is a deep and safe state of relaxation with increased awareness. It can be compared to a daydream state that we are all in many times a day. Indeed, whenever our mind wanders, daydreams or is focused on something, such as reading a book, driving a familiar route, we are in a state of hypnosis.
How does hypnosis feel?

Hypnosis, being a natural state of mind, you will hear every word and could get up and walk out of the room at any moment. Unless you enter a deeper state, you may not seem any different, you will just feel extremely relaxed. It is similar to drifting off to sleep at night, that stage when you are not quite awake and not quite asleep. You may feel a sense of weightlessness or you may feel heaviness as all your muscles relax. Everyone experiences it differently, and I will make sure you relax and enjoy the experience.
Is Hypnosis Safe?

Yes absolutely. Hypnosis is completely safe and natural. You are not asleep, and you are in full control of the situation. It is a pleasant state of mind where your awareness and focus are increased. Everyone has already experienced hypnosis hundreds of times whether they are aware of it or not. Everyday hypnosis occurs, for example, when you are driving down the road and lose track of time, or when you are focusing on a book and you don’t even notice what's going on around you. It is an imaginative free-floating and pleasant state of mind.
Does hypnosis mean I give up control?

Absolutely not. You will be in a hypnotic trance, just like when you are deeply focused on a specific activity and you still have the power to emerge from that state if wished. As a certified hypnotherapist, I need your full involvement and commitment to work with you as hypnotherapy is all about giving you back full control of your life. I am merely the guide to help you on your journey, and the change can only be made by you. Hypnosis is very empowering.
What about Stage Hypnosis?

A Hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything you do not want to. As I require your full consent to work with you, you will never be asked to do anything foolish or dangerous. Stage hypnosis is used for entertainment purposes only and is based on members of the audience volunteering. Please forget what you might have seen on TV and remember hypnosis is used to empower you and certainly not to control you or go against your will.
Who Can Be Hypnotised?

Absolutely anyone can be hypnotised if they choose to do so. Hypnosis cannot be done against a person’s will as we always require the person's full consent and is safe and effective for adults, teenagers and children. Should you suffer from a specific medical condition and are unsure whether hypnosis is the right way for you, please contact me and we will discuss it through to find the most suitable option.
I work with adults, teenagers and young children (children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult).
What will happen in a hypnosis session?

Before meeting you for your first session, I will always have a first contact with you on the phone to help me prepare our initial comprehensive hypnotherapy session. When meeting you, I will then take detailed history of the issue you want to work on, and with some conditions may request permission from you to write to your doctor, to let them know you are having hypnotherapy.
We will then discuss in depth your goal and what you would like to see or feel at the end of the sessions.
Using a range of different techniques, I will relax you, make you feel comfortable and work with you towards achieving your goal.
After a session you may feel uplifted, lighter and very relaxed. Often change is very subtle, as I will be working with your subconscious mind, and you may just notice a very positive shift in how you are feeling.

What can hypnotherapy be used to treat?

Hypnotherapy can be used to improve, and in many cases entirely remove, any symptom or challenge caused by emotions, habits, behaviours. It has been agreed that many life problems have predominantly psychological or emotional underlying factors. Hypnotherapy can also be used to improve overall performance in different areas of life (work, sport, exams...). It is extremely powerful for confidence and self-esteem work, quitting smoking, losing weight, fears and phobias, anxieties, performance, insomnia and other sleep related disorders, pain management, improving birth outcomes, symptoms of post traumatic experiences, grief management and many more. The beauty of hypnotherapy is that it can be truly life changing.
How long does it take to see results? Are the results immediate?

Not always! Everyone is unique and will feel the effects of hypnosis in a different way. You may notice changes quickly and very often straight away after our first session together. Or, you may not notice the changes at first. Then, presented with a certain situation which used to be challenging to you, you will act differently and realize that all the change work done during our hypnotherapy sessions has come together!
The number of sessions will vary from one person to another. Just remember that like anything else, hypnosis is a process and will require a certain number of sessions.
