There are stories we are told about ourselves, and then there are stories our bodies remember.
For years, I have been fascinated by the invisible forces that shape who we become. The experiences we cannot explain. The feelings that seem to have no origin. The drive that pushes some of us to achieve, to strive, to prove, to excel—often at the expense of our own peace.
The Mystery of the Vanishing Twin
One topic that continues to capture my attention is the Vanishing Twin Syndrome.
Vanishing Twin Syndrome occurs when one twin is lost during pregnancy, often very early in gestation, while the surviving twin continues to develop. In many cases, the mother may never even know she was carrying twins. Yet for some surviving twins, there are accounts of unexplained feelings of loss, loneliness, guilt, or a lifelong search for something they cannot quite identify.
While science continues to explore the long-term psychological implications, many survivors describe a deep sense that part of their story was written before they ever took their first breath.
And perhaps that is why this conversation matters.
Because so many high-achieving women carry a silent narrative beneath their success.
They are the women who build businesses, lead teams, inspire communities, and create extraordinary lives. They are resilient, ambitious, capable, and driven. Yet beneath the accomplishments often lies a question:
“Why do I never feel like it is enough?”
The Silent Drive Behind Success
I have met women who have achieved remarkable things and still feel as though they are chasing something just beyond reach.
Another goal.
Another promotion.
Another milestone.
Another validation.
Another reason to prove they deserve the space they occupy.
What if part of that relentless drive is not about achievement at all?
What if it is about searching for wholeness?
For some individuals who identify with the surviving twin experience, achievement becomes more than success—it becomes a way of filling an absence they cannot name. A subconscious desire to make life count. To live for two. To carry a responsibility, they never consciously agreed to but somehow feel deeply within.
This is not weakness.
This is not dysfunction.
This is a testament to the incredible complexity of the human spirit.
The women I admire most are not those who have never struggled. They are the women who choose to transform their struggles into purpose.
The women who take pain and turn it into leadership.
The women who take uncertainty and turn it into courage.
The women who take loss and turn it into love.
Rewriting the Story of Success
Whether Vanishing Twin Syndrome is part of your story or not, there is a powerful lesson here for every woman striving for success.
You do not have to earn your worth through exhaustion.
You do not have to prove your value through constant achievement.
You do not have to carry the weight of perfection to deserve success.
Your worth was never attached to your productivity.
Your value was never determined by how much you accomplish.
And your success is not measured by how hard you struggle.
True success begins when achievement is no longer driven by fear, guilt, or the need to prove yourself.
It begins when success becomes an expression of who you are rather than evidence of who you believe you need to become.
As women, we are often taught to celebrate our strength while hiding our vulnerability. Yet our greatest power emerges when we honor both.
The leader and the healer.
The achiever and the dreamer.
The warrior and the woman.
For those who resonate with the idea of being a surviving twin, know this: your story is not defined by loss.
It is defined by life.
You are not here to carry the burden of what disappeared.
You are here to fully embrace what remains.
To live boldly.
To love deeply.
To lead courageously.
To create impact.
To own your success unapologetically.
Because success is not about becoming more.
It is about remembering who you have always been.
And perhaps the greatest achievement of all is not what we build in the world—but the moment we finally recognize that we were enough from the very beginning.
At She Owns Success, we celebrate women who rise, women who lead, and women who dare to rewrite the narratives that no longer serve them.
Your story matters.
Your journey matters.
And your presence in this world is more powerful than you may ever realize.
Own it.
Embrace it.
And step fully into the success that was always yours.
Because the world does not need another version of someone else.
It needs the extraordinary woman you were born to be.
